Go read my poems "Bebe Rexha As Metaphor" and "The Derivation of Mother is Dam", then stay and read the rest of the magazine. I am particularly fond of Dina Folgia’s "We Could Have Been a Lake", which I’ve come back to read a few times over the last few weeks.
If you have not read today’s Academy of American Poets Poem of the day, read it! Never read a poem by Victoria Kornick before, but "Guided Meditation" is the kind of poem that reminds me why I go to poetry, why I want a book with Sarabande, and makes me think go up and down about whether I will ever have a piece of art that does that for someone else. So many lines stand out in her poem, but “At the end of a sentence, one can add what matters less” rings so true in a poem about power dynamics and language.
The poem serendipitously parallels my feelings today with the poetry world, at large. Rejections piling on. (Not a horoscope person, but I saw yesterday Yahoo front page how today was going to be a bad day for me, and it has been.)
